speaker-0: Welcome to Who's Your Beef, an Indiana sports podcast. Welcome into our first video telecast. If you've heard us before, now you can put a face to the name. I'm Slick, one of the co-hosts, and besides me is the general Jason Farling. And welcome to Who's Your Beef. You can now find us on YouTube and Apple and Spotify for audio. Well, guys, another disappointing day. I would say a very typical game for the Colts and the Vikings. The Vikings have Scooting along all year with a bad offense and a blitz-like crazy defense and been winning games they shouldn't have. And again, that happened today. The Colts have been going up early, playing pretty well early, and then giving away games late. And quite essential we saw both today. So we'll start this like every episode. The general, welcome in. Who's your beef with?

speaker-1: Well, welcome folks to those of you that are joining us for the first time on YouTube. We're happy to have you. My beef today is with our forty-four million dollar quarterback. And he's one A, and I would say Shane Steichan would be one B for me. Look, the this quarterback play is just simply not good enough. Week after week after week, the guy turns the ball over. Just making terrible decisions down the field. And but yet Shane's still got his back because of the stretch that he went through last year. And he's coming back from the Achilles injury. And we just think he's all sudden gonna get better. But we continue to see the same thing over and over and over. And what's the definition of insanity? The same thing over and over again. But Slick, who's your beef with today?

speaker-0: The same. But we've been talking about that for weeks. You know, we're just gonna keep blaming the same entities on things. I I did have a problem with Shane today, not that it's anything new, but his inability to adjust during games is absolutely insane. It's like clockwork every game. I swear the dude is a hall of fame coach in the first quarter. You know, when it's scripted, when everything's good, the defense is rolling. We saw it again today. We we take a lead immediately. It's pretty rare, except that Ravens game. To start the year, which we did take a lead there too, for us just to get bamboozled right out of the gate and have to come back. I mean, we got no chance we have to that. But last week we're up 13-0 and a half. Today we go up early. And the dude just refuses to give in. I mean, he's gotta throw the ball late for some reason. That crazy third and two, where we're down there and ends up kicking a field goal, which we missed. How do you not just run the ball twice in a row with a running game that's working? You've got two backs today that are running the hell out of the ball, including McGowan, who looked great. And I I just don't get why he sticks to his guns. Even at halftime, you know, he he gets pulled over and they show him to start the third quarter in his his off field interview. And the dude stands there and he says, She asked him about the passing, gotta get the passing game going. He says, Yeah, but he really blew it off and he said, you know, we've got to control the clock and we gotta run the ball. And then he didn't do it. He didn't do it at all. And it just pisses me off how he can stand there and we we text each other every game midway through third quarter. Here comes the old line. There's the holes. Let's go get it. And all of a sudden he puts

speaker-1: Yeah.

speaker-0: the ball back in DJ's hands and it was inevitable what's gonna happen today. So I mean we can get into it, but

speaker-1: It's just really unb it's really unbelievable. You know, Colts ran for 154 yards today. almost averaging five yards of carry. JT ninety five yards. Obviously had that big one, busted it for the first touchdown of the game. And yeah, it's just like we talk about every week, you know, before we were making our YouTube debut here. It's a broken record. We have a dominant offensive line. We have one of the best running backs in the NFL and Jonathan Taylor. Now he has a good compliment in Seth McGowan. McGowan is seeing more and more carries every week. Kid had 11 carries today, and I mean, he's gonna be good. So yeah, Steichen, he does the same thing. And it's like you would think, since Colts got rid of Ballard, I know he's now reporting to Carly Ursay, but The guy just continues to do what he wants to do and that is to keep the ball in Daniel Jones' hand when the game really is on the line. So yeah, it's like when the Colts have a a third and short, run twenty eight two times. If we don't get it, us as fans, I don't think anybody's gonna be mad if you run the ball twice to twenty eight and we don't get it. Right?

speaker-0: You know, what I saw on Twitter today was someone suggesting, because Jones, every time he see sneaked, he got two to four yards of play. Why don't we just do that the whole game? And it's so funny when the NFL, and you'll see the analysts pointing this out, whenever the quarterback drops down, drops back that foot, you know he's sneaking. I don't know how the D line doesn't see that and just pinch the hell out of it. It's every time go watch an NFL game, and when that foot goes back, they are sneaking. You you never see a fake. It's crazy.

speaker-1: Yep. That is something that's definitely a a telltale sign. Can only imagine, you know, trying to look through, you know, six five to what, six eight, three hundred plus pounders to be able to see that. But you know those those guys on the D line, they're smart enough. They can see that stuff and when to expect it, when to not. Especially, you know, you you got your your teams that do it a lot more than others. So but yeah. Jones, like he he had a couple of decent runs today. You know, he got out there. To the edge one time. I believe he picked up a first down for six yards, but other than that it's like, you know, we're

speaker-0: With Jones is he's not equipped to play that defense. That is an exotic blitzing nightmare for him, for someone that can't get rid of the ball. And we kept trying to run deeper routes. And the only thing was working, if you saw that third down where he connected with Keenan Allen, and Ross Tucker even pointed out they that's how you handle a blitz. Quick release, right? And we had a couple of good screen passes there, which we didn't go back to. And I I don't know why we continue to try to push the push the ball down the field when we literally can't. He doesn't have enough time. Again, those blitz packages were just putting our offensive line in insanely bad positions. But I d I do wanna touch on on some of the positives that we had today. You know, Adory had a game of his life today. We've we've been saying he's a stud f this whole year, but

speaker-1: Two sacks for Atabori today.

speaker-0: Yeah, he played great. And I thought JT we finally busted one early in the game. We hadn't seen that all year, the home run, even though it was only thirty eight yards, which I know is still a huge run. We hadn't seen the sixty, seventy yard runs that he was known for a few years ago. And it was nice to see him bust that out. And I'm telling you fantasy owners out there, if you haven't done it yet, just in case Jonathan Taylor does get traded. You're gonna want McGowan on your bench. You better pick him up this week and stash him because if he gets traded, he is gonna be a stud on this Colts team the rest of the year.

speaker-1: Absolutely. I I definitely agree with that. And that would be that'd be one A in my fantasy notes for the week as well. Hey, one thing on the Vikings that I will say the Colts did a pretty good job overall with. I heard this stat before the game. The Vikings coming into today, they blitz on seventy percent of snaps,

speaker-0: Wasn't that insane?

speaker-1: which is double of the second most in the NFL. Seventy percent of snaps. I mean, you know, obviously, you know, their coordinator, he he's known for bringing exotic schemes and and all that type of stuff. But the Colts did a pretty good job with it. And then one shout out I'd really like to give Sauce Gardner was out today. Cam Taylor Britt. I mean, guy looked good. Got a sack. I mean, a couple pass breakups.

speaker-0: How about the hit he delivered on Kyler there? Squared

speaker-1: Working.

speaker-0: him up and hammered down. That was awesome. And then he did go out late, I think, with a groin injury. So hopefully he's okay. And then even the other backup, Harris, had a couple of breakups there in the second half. Look good.

speaker-1: He did. He did. So it's just like, yeah. The the defense, which was our major problem the first few games of the season, you know, has not been a problem. You give up sixteen points in an NFL game, you should win nine out of ten times. I understand there's gonna be some low scoring games. Colts have been a part of some of those. You hold a team to sixteen points in the NFL, you gotta win the ball game. We had our chances.

speaker-0: We certainly did. And like I said, it was a quintessential game where we gave away and they took advantage of the opponent's mistake. I texted you thirty seconds as soon as we started that drive, the last game of the or last drive of the game with DJ, and I said, I wish I could bet my life savings that he's gonna throw a pick or he's gonna fumble. And it was two it took him a whole damn two plays for him to throw it right to the other team. And as you heard in the opening audio, Ross Tucker laid it out. He's like, It's almost like he's trying to throw it to the other team. And it was just unbelievable. It was it was so easy to call. And really the question this week, you know it's gonna be with the media, is do we give the guy that just got busted from marijuana a real shot?

speaker-1: Right. So yeah, you can you can go and bet that bet that stuff live on on DraftKings and and FanDuel as well. But yeah, you he did text me and it was like clockwork. It's either gonna be a fumble or an interception coming. We knew it was we knew it was coming. It's the same thing and you know, Steichen is asked in a post game conference, you know, i if if he's gonna consider any any change at quarterback, you know, for the Jacksonville game next week. Nope. I'm happy with Daniel Jones as our quarterback. Yeah, it's the same thing over and over and over. And it's like somebody that funny, not funny. Somebody on X is like, this guy's an absolute terrorist to the Indianapolis Colts organization. I I I mean, I know Anthony Richardson got busted for marijuana. Hey, let's let's all call it like it is. It should be legal in the state of Indiana, but it's not. So yes, it is a misdemeanor. to this day, but just give the guy a shot. We've been calling for weeks now to at least put him in on goal line situations or something like that and run the ball. We're talking about guys, you know, needing a yard or two, AR, QB sneak, or, you know, out of the out of the Wildcat.

speaker-0: I'm still waiting on these design packages for him. You know, either a tight end, fullback. I mean, why are we trying to keep him so healthy if we're just gonna give him away for not I don't I don't get it all. And a couple of shout outs today. I will give Dallas Turner a shout out. He blitzed Daniel Jones a a ton. And did you know that we could have drafted Dallas Turner instead of Latu? Did you know that? I don't know if you knew that, which

speaker-1: I do not know that.

speaker-0: Did not see today.

speaker-1: Yeah, La Tu was nowhere to be found. And guy had one tackle. Guy had the same amount of tackles as Spencer Schrader today. I mean is that good?

speaker-0: And Schrader showed himself to be human today, a couple of misses, which w looked out costly, but frankly Rikert had a bigger streak going for them. Was it thirty six in a row? And he missed and then a big grove. How about that? Getting up getting his hands up there late in the game.

speaker-1: Big pocket.

speaker-0: W do you remember the last time we blocked a a field goal? It's been a while.

speaker-1: I don't. It's it's been several years.

speaker-0: I and I thought there we I was like, Okay, that's a good sign. Maybe maybe we got a chance at this one. No DJ showed up.

speaker-1: No, no. But yeah, I mean, you know, the the positives to come out of this game is O line run blocking again, Jonathan Taylor, Seth McGowan. So, yeah. I if we do decide to move on from JT, which I don't think we're going to, if the Colts are blown away by say if somebody comes with a first round pick and or something else in addition to it, the Colts will have no choice but to move him. They they have to Do that. And no, I know you fans out there are gonna say, well, what are we gonna get in the first round that's better than Jonathan Taylor? And it's like that's not the point of it. JT unfortunately is on the back end of his career. He does have two years left on his contract, and he's still playing at an all pro level. I get that. However, the bottom line is this organization, this team has to be in rebuild mode. So we have to gather picks from Buckner. Grover Stewart, Taylor, whoever it might be. Q you know it Yeah. Q. I I do think Buckner will be the first to go and he spouted off again in the postgame and and rightfully so. The guy deserves that to play for a winning team. He does.

speaker-0: Yeah, I Bugner's good as gone. You you can tell in his body language the way he's talking, he's probably thinking or probably trying to lobby for what team he wants to go to now, be my guess.

speaker-1: Yeah, I would say that say that as well. You know, it and you know, they asked a lot of the Colts players in the locker room and media sessions this week about Chris Ballard, and they had nothing but great things to say. And like Pat McAfee and a lot of the other media out there, they had great things to say about Ballard as a human being. Great human being, cares about the guys, cares about the organization. Unfortunately, just made some some you know bad moves, some really bad moves. You know, that are gonna affect this organization moving forward. So it's unfortunate at the end of the day, you know, I I know we we can beat a dead horse. We he got screwed on luck and this and that. We're giving we he got a pass. Yeah.

speaker-0: We're past all that now.

speaker-1: The stuff that's gone on and and this this hopefully this sauce trade doesn't haunt us forever, but the Colts gotta do something. I truly believe we gotta collect a couple second rounders andor thirds. We got to package that with maybe our our what will get us our our second round pick to move into the first. And whether that's to get an edge rusher or it's to get your franchise quarterback, we got to be able to do that.

speaker-0: Yeah, I think it's a pipe dream to see a franchise quarterback walk through that door next year. Unless you get lucky in the draft. I think you're more likely let's go defensive and heavy from here on out.

speaker-1: Yeah.

speaker-0: We have just been just as bad at that position as we have quarterbacks since Luck left. But

speaker-1: As as we talked about the other day, I mean, it's been since Robert Mathis since we've had a badass defensive end. So

speaker-0: Yeah. And so let's look let's look ahead. Let's let's debate this just a little bit longer. As you look at this graphic about DJ, you know, through twelve weeks last year, you can see these numbers. That's obviously a Fugazi. You know, it was it was a flash in the pan from what he's done. Two thirty eight last year versus one hundred eighty four this year. But what really screams out is that touchdown to interception ratio, which was really on par with some of the best in the league. For a lot of that, and that includes a couple bad games last year, those losses in overtime. And this year, I mean, four touchdowns, six picks. That last pick today is just just a heartbreaker. But we do not have an easier task in front of us. I assume you know where we're going to play next week, a place we have not won since 2014. And we've also lost eight straight games, the Colts have. So let's just throw AR in there. You You gotta see what you got with the kid, if you're gonna entertain s you know, having him back next year or not. Yeah, I know you talked about last week the eight million dollar cap hit we would take if we do cut Daniel Jones by a certain date. We'll see what happens.

speaker-1: The Colts are going down to Duval, as they would say. Yes. To face the vaunted Jaguars. Yeah. Yes. I mean, I can just see Trevor Lawrence and all the weapons he's got. I mean, they're loaded now. Just loaded. And yeah, the Colts defense will be challenged yet again. So I

speaker-0: I told you all all all this week that I thought the Colts would have that classic fire your GM midweek boost, which I was comically saying, but I did think they would show up today. They did cover by half a point.

speaker-1: I was just about to say, you got that right. Six and a half Colts cover. I'm

speaker-0: I wouldn't be shocked if they covered. And that's just cause the Vikings offense is horrific. Yeah. even with Mason back today, they could not do anything. Well, if it wasn't for Kyler's legs there at the end, they I mean, forget about

speaker-1: Let's call it like it is with the Vikings. I mean, they're probably the worst six and team in NFL history.

speaker-0: They're a dead nut under team, if you want to bet that. And I would just start betting against them against the spread because that with their record now being what six and they are they're gonna get inflated in the market for sure with some public money. So that is my gambling advice for this week. But let's let's move on to a a close game, a scare. But the first win for your if you guys don't know that are first watching us, the general you can imagine is a IU fan and I am a Purdue fan. So one of us was pulling for one team, one of us might have been pulling for the other. But the Hoosiers do go up to the big house in Michigan and win for the first time in fifty seven years. Please explain.

speaker-1: Seven.

speaker-0: Who's your beef with with the Hoosiers? I know who it is with me.

speaker-1: Who hoo hoo hoosiers? Yeah, the beef with the Hoosiers it's it's gonna lie with with Josh Hoover and I know the guy was gutting it out. He's he's way more injured than he or the coaching staff is letting on to, but the guy did gut it out, goes in there. I don't think anybody in the world thought Hoover was gonna run it in there in overtime. But the guy makes the game winning T D run in OT at the big house to give IU their first win up in Michigan in 57 years. And I've really got to take my hat off to this IU defense. Guys, we're all over the field making it so difficult for Tommy Carr in that Michigan offense. I mean, this defense, Toby Yasun Sumi. You know, Relaja Hardy, Isaiah Jones, Farrell, Sharp. I mean, these guys were just all over the field and they they've been doing it for the last few weeks. And people been asking more and more out of this defense because they know how good on paper they came in this year, and we're finally seeing them step up and assert themselves when they basically had their back against the walls. Signetti said, Look, when we were up six nothing. I knew we weren't going to lose because we weren't going to give up a touchdown. Well, I'm glad he had that confidence in the unit because yeah, I wasn't daunted, but it was close. So yeah, what a what a tough battle for the old Hoosiers. Gotta get Hoover healthy. I know there was talk of Grant Wilson potentially coming into this game and playing. He, you know, old Dominion transfer. Not really sure what we get out of him. But yeah. What are your thoughts on what you saw in that game, Slick?

speaker-0: What I saw from the Hoosiers was was impressive defensively. We knew that was going to happen because Michigan's offense is terribly bad. If you take out their UTEP game, throw that one away, they're only averaging 15 points a game in general. So it wasn't it wasn't a surprise at all. That was a dead nut under game. And I think it was 6'3 midway through the third. And then I was impressed with the the stop there at the end by the Hoosers because mo momentum was definitely on Michigan's side. Carr was scrambling around, that one scramble where he went right and threw across his body and they picked up twenty yards. I thought they were destined for a T D there and IU was gonna lose in an upset, but they held strong them there near the goal line. And it was a big test. You haven't won somewhere in fifty seven years. I don't care how good you are. That's that's a big deal to win up there. Who do they got next week?

speaker-1: So it was just announced that college game day is coming to Bloomington for IU Minnesota. What a that's a little surprised

speaker-0: Wow. Yep prizing?

speaker-1: at the Golden Gophers rolling into town. We got game day rolling in. I mean, you know, this Minnesota team they beat to Michigan at home for the first time in a bunch of years as well. So Yeah.

speaker-0: I also lost to my boilers by a million.

speaker-1: Yeah, that that's all I can picture is Asia Boy, the running back from Purdue, just going absolutely bonkers on this Golden Gophers defense.

speaker-0: Text Signetti with your idea of just just roll the Purdue tape for him.

speaker-1: Hey Sig andor Mike Shanahan. If you're listening, throw on the Purdue versus Minnesota tape. Let's get let's get the old running back room, Turbo, B B, and let's get Kobe Martin rolling. Get that old line pumped up. Let's run the ball about fifty times on these guys.

speaker-0: Hey, question for ya. I saw some controversy. Why was no one listed, including Hoover, on the injury report going to that Michigan game? We know Hoover was injured. Signetti after the game admitted he wasn't a hundred percent.

speaker-1: It is interesting because there was a bunch of Michigan fans on X losing their minds over like IU trying to keep some injuries under wraps. And I don't know what was put out there if that was an official injury report or you know that came from somebody else. But yeah, I mean it was clear to me that Hoover was definitely nursing something. So even if you list the guy as probable, which that means there's seventy five percent chance of them playing. You know, you list them as probable, but nobody was listed on there for IU, which yeah, I I don't really know. I know in the NFL, if you don't have a guy down on the injury list and they they have some sort of designation, then you can get fined for it. So Yeah.

speaker-0: Definitely different rules up top in the NFL. I didn't actually know that wasn't a rule in college. I guess I don't follow the injury reports as closely as you do.

speaker-1: Yeah, so you know, I you knock on wood, been fortunate to not have too many guys banged up after the North Texas game where we had both of our starting corners go down and so we got them back and let's look at the what do you say we look at the big ten title race here because we got

speaker-0: Yeah, you guys will see that on the screen here.

speaker-1: We got the Bruins from UCLA tied with the Buckeyes of Ohio State at four and So, yeah, I mean this this race, and then obviously with the the Julian Saiyan injury with Ohio State, we're gonna find out a lot about them against USC. They gotta go to USC. Obviously, USC's coming off a loss to Wisconsin up there in the Badger Land. So They're gonna get a pissed off USC Trojans team. Lincoln Riley, from what I've heard, you know, kinda on the hot seat out there, even though I think they've had a decent year. But yeah, Ohio State, if they're back up QB at US C is gonna be interesting. What are your thoughts, Slick?

speaker-0: Well, the Lincoln Riley situation, you can't let UCLA be the the big dick in town there. I'll tell you that. So that's that's why he's in hot water. UCLA coming out of nowhere and being five and in the Big Ten and looking like they control their own destiny to get to the Big Ten title game, which would frankly be kind of cool to see someone new in there. I know they're new to the Big Ten, but still kind of a cool concept. Who would you much rather be on this list? Let's say you're a neutral fan. You've got Ohio State who hadn't lost a game, but they definitely have a tougher schedule and one more game than the Hoosiers do. Where the Hoosiers have a kind of an easier schedule, but they're one game behind.

speaker-1: Yeah, I mean just looking at it from a from an outsiders perspective, Ohio State has got a tough schedule. I mean, they have

speaker-0: USB And I'm sorry, correct me if I'm wrong, but they gotta lose two games for IU to overtake them, right? 'Cause they've won

speaker-1: They would. They would, obviously, 'cause the first tiebreaker's gonna be head to head. So if I U and Ohio State both finish with one loss, Ohio State's going. So IU and

speaker-0: What what about the tiebreaker between UCLA and IU since they didn't play each other head to head?

speaker-1: So since they don't play each other head to head, if they were both to finish with the same amount of losses, then it would go to common opponents, which

speaker-0: And we and we still have some of those to come.

speaker-1: That will be to be determined. Both obviously play Minnesota, both play Michigan, both play US C. I think there's couple other common opponents. USC's still gonna play a massive role in who

speaker-0: Purdue be a common opponent, so don't lose to Purdue.

speaker-1: It'll be a massive USC will play a massive role in in who makes the Big Ten championship because and in Michigan as well, UCLA's got to go to the big house still. as we know, it's not an easy place to play with a hundred and seven thousand fans up there. So we'll be interesting. It's probably gonna come down to the last week of the season. IU's got hopefully IU can come out, play a solid game against Minnesota. Then they finally get a bye week. To rest up, hopefully, you know, for USC coming in there. So so we'll see what happens. There's question marks with Ohio State. I think there's question marks with every team. You know, UCLA's quarterback, he's done. So they've got their their true backup in there. state's quarterback, he's done. So they've got their backup in there as well. And then there's a lot of questions surrounding Hoover. Hoover has not been very accurate. He's been injured. So what are we gonna see out of Josh Hoover?

speaker-0: Do you know when his first completed pass in the second half was?

speaker-1: Did he even complete one?

speaker-0: One overtime.

speaker-1: Overtime. Yeah, to brutal. Yep. To Brock Shock. Yeah. that

speaker-0: Right there and over almost a score there.

speaker-1: Yep. Sig Sig said that shot is usually the decoy on that play. And he hit him over the middle there on the seam route. And then he's like, who would have thought Josh would have taken off? So yeah. Big couple of plays there. It's again, finding ways to win. And I you is what, four to six inches away from being undefeated. So

speaker-0: Game inches, man.

speaker-1: and we'll move on to the golden gophers.

speaker-0: Yeah, and the only other common or non common how do I word this? I guess Wisconsin is the only other team like UCLA that IU will not play, right? You didn't play Wisconsin this year?

speaker-1: No, no Wisconsin.

speaker-0: They're the only other team on there that would probably have a legitimate legitimate chance unless you lose to Minnesota this

speaker-1: Yeah, and I mean Wisconsin, I mean, they beat the absolute pants off of USC up there in Madison. So they've got to go to Iowa, which obviously is a very hostile environment. So we'll see what the badgers are made of.

speaker-0: And their only loss was to UCLA, right?

speaker-1: Yes. UCLA actually plays an out of conference game this week against Nevada, which is interesting. Late in the middle of the season playing Nevada. But yeah, so it is interesting. You know, you got Kurt Signetti coming over from James Madison to Indiana, you know, going to the Big Ten championship game. And then you got Bob Chesney coming over from James Madison. Now he's with UCLA. Can he do the same thing? So there's a Interesting little trail there from James Madison.

speaker-0: Very good. Well, I'm staring at the Pacers who are leading. They we were recording during the ABA unveiling, I guess, is what you would call it. So those unis look sweet. They're playing in it I keep trying to say Philly 'cause it's red, white, and blue, but they're playing in Brooklyn, playing the ABA Nets. I didn't see if Dr. J was in the building, but they are leading at the moment. You look

speaker-1: Throwback uniforms. Well

speaker-0: look pretty sweet.

speaker-1: I I just gotta say the opening night game at New Orleans, that was that was absolutely awesome. I mean, I had goosebumps seeing Hyle Burton on the floor. You know, obviously he's played preseason, but him playing an actual game that matters was so cool. Kid balled out, 23 points, 12 assists.

speaker-0: Twelve dimes.

speaker-1: You know Had a had a and one runner in there in the lane, scooped it up with the left hand.

speaker-0: Quinn was excited about that one, wasn't he? Yeah. That was that was money. That was a game winner almost.

speaker-1: I I'm so excited for this this, you know, partnership with Wazubotch. You know, sixteen points, fifteen rebounds in that opening game. Siakam coming with thirty points. I mean, he was pretty much go to thirteen for twenty three in that game against the Pelicans. And the you know, Pacers down ten at half and they come from behind to win that game one twenty three, one twenty. And then Slick, what the hell happened in the home opener against the Mavericks?

speaker-0: My guess is they were they were they were too involved in the the hype, you know, and all the festivities before the game and Halliburton talking to the crowd again, which frankly, come on, let's play the game. But they go through every sh every player and stuff. It's same thing I think the Knicks went through on a smaller scale, night one. When they lost to the Sixers, you just get kinda involved in in the other stuff going on. But yeah, they definitely laid an egg. Offense did not look Nearly as good. And Dallas, frankly, was on fire. They they couldn't miss in that first half. And you give them credit, they play to the end. I think they got it all the way within thirteen the fourth. They were down thirty nine at one point. But yeah, kind of a throwaway game. They look more like themselves currently.

speaker-1: Yeah. Pacers shot seven for thirty two from three in that game against the Mavericks. Twenty two percent. So yeah. It was not pretty. The guy I really wanted to ask you about, and I gotta give you credit for those of you folks that that didn't hear Slicks Pacers preview. We have a new addition on the team. Kelly Ubre came from the Philadelphia Seventy Sixers. I for one was pretty excited about this addition to the team. Slick was not. And so far, Slick, you've been spot on with this this player.

speaker-0: Well, first of all, for for first time viewers to the telecast here, I'm recording from Phoenix, so I've lived out here twelve years. So I saw Ubre as a kid when he was out here in the the late what do you call that, two thousand tens. And one particular game told told me everything. I had great seats to see the pacers out here. And I I go to a lot of Sons games where I used to. And the guy either is locked in or he's he's checked out. And I even though he has matured and he's had some good years with Charlotte and the Sixers, he had the same stuff going on in Golden State when he left the Suns. But this game, him and Booker, who I also do not like, surprised he made it to a title, made it to the finals at least, but I think that was all Chris Paul. But I digress. Both those guys just totally checked out. I think the Pacers won by thirty something. They did not try at all. Oubre strikes me a little bit like Matherin. He's gotta be A ball hog, he's gotten better at that. He does have a coveted skill, that corner three, but he is brutal defensively when he doesn't want to engage. And I just think you're gonna see some ups and downs with him. Some games he's gonna be lightning in a bottle and he'll put up twenty-three, six from seven from three, show you some highlight dunks. He's gonna be great in transition. But I'm worried about him in crunch time if he gets some rotational minutes at the end of the game, especially if he has a lockdown defensively.

speaker-1: Yeah, I mean, so far tonight, halftime, first half of the the game against the Nets here, Kelly Ubre, ten points on four or six shooting. So hey, so

speaker-0: You got good or braid night.

speaker-1: that that's progression. He's the second leading scorer behind Pascal Siakam. Siakam has fifteen at halftime. Hal Burton, four points, four rebounds, four assists. The Pacers lead currently sixty five to fifty six at halftime. So let's hope we can get the record to two and one. And get back on the winning track. Yeah.

speaker-0: Rare for to see the Pacers lose the bench battle. They got beat bad the other night. I'm not gonna really put too much stock into the team until TJ's back. I think he's such a driving force. He leads that second unit, brings that energy. Hopefully he still has it after a a hamstring injury and is at his current age. We haven't really seen he didn't play in the preseason at all. So we'll see if he still has it. But you remember in our run and even the years leading up to that when we weren't insanely good, that dude is a fan favorite. He plays his ass off. He's gonna make a great coach one day, but hopefully he gives us still a couple of years of really hard nosed play.

speaker-1: Dude, we need McConnell back, something fierce. He's the little engine that could. He's the the spark plug. I mean, we just really need that back. And I I wanted Neesmith back and obviously he played limited minutes in the first game, but looks like he's pretty effective tonight. Facers are

speaker-0: He doesn't Nismith doesn't quite have that to lift on his jumper yet, I don't think. So you might see his shooting percentage down. Kind of a slow start, but sorry, go ahead.

speaker-1: So the Pacers after tonight's game, we go to Milwaukee to play tomorrow night. So we're on a back to back here. Hopefully we can get this first one done. And the next game at Game Bridge Fieldhouse will be on Wednesday against LeBron, Jalen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxie and the Philadelphia seventy sixers. Slick, have you had a chance to watch them yet?

speaker-0: I've watched them twice. I know you were watching closely on that big comeback they had, but I did watch them I watched the whole game on opening night. I just didn't think there was gonna be enough basketballs to go around. But that night all four of those guys had five plus assists. I caught them until I turned it off in the in the game that they came way back. I know you caught caught the the comeback there. Was that more of a case of Philly turning on or Cleveland just against just like they did against the Pacers, just kinda shit down their leg?

speaker-1: Yeah, I mean, Cleveland was absolutely horrific in the second half. I mean, it was seventy sixers outscored him sixty-nine to thirty-seven in the second half. But yeah, I mean, this team, you know, like LeBron sat last night because they're the NBA definitely didn't do LeBron James and the Seventy Sixers any favors. They played four games in six nights. And at

speaker-0: Well, they gotta make money, man. That's a big draw.

speaker-1: That's that's pretty tough in the NBA, four out of six. But yeah, they're they're three and They were down big to the Cavs the other night, and I kind of left them for dead. And then all of a sudden they come roaring back. But it's just like you got Braun. And and LeBron is pass first, pass first. He's gonna let other guys get theirs, which I I do you gotta respect the hell out of that, whether you like the guy or not. And then when he's open or he sees a lane, he's gonna go. And so, you know, he's he's still scoring. Jalen Brown is still a prolific score for them. And I mean, embiede when he's healthy, I mean, he's a hell of a guy to deal with. So yeah, they're they're definitely gonna be tough. They actually play the s the the Pistons here coming up in about ten minutes. So you got two of the beasts in the East facing off. So we might get a little preview of a of a playoff matchup coming down in April.

speaker-0: Well, on on another basketball note of Indiana, I don't know if you saw this week, it must have been national fire your GM week in the Capital City there because the fever, not only did their team president, Kelly Christhoff, resign, she told the team before the season ended she was stepping down after I guess she had been there three decades with the Pacers Sports and Entertainment. But then on top of that, what was that, two days ago, they decided to fire GM what's her name? Amber Cox. And we had speculated a couple of weeks ago, even if Stephanie White was gonna retain her job, it looks like her job is safe. And we don't spend a lot of time on this, but I thought that was interesting, the the shakeup they did up top, because they did have three all stars. They had a potential VP candidate who just scored the most points in NBA league history in a season. Obviously got Caitlin Clark that this huge offense and another another playoff exit early.

speaker-1: It's it's definitely interesting the the shakeup. You know, I I'm gonna chalk it up to I just it's kinda like the seventy sixers situation. They're they're currently making it work. But I don't think there's enough ball to go around currently with this fever roster. Kelsey Mitchell's a free agent. I know Caitlin Clark and Aaliyah Boston say they'll do whatever they can to keep her and obviously want to see her stay as well. But there's gotta be a new GM brought in. analyze this roster and he or she needs to make their decision on what the path forward is to complement Caitlin Clark. What's gonna be the best to compliment her and build this because obviously she makes this franchise go. As we've said before, she puts butts in the seats, sometimes sellouts. And I'm not saying she's all a WNBA's got, but it's up there. So this fever team has to be competitive and And for a lot I think they need to be in the finals next year, minimum. Minimum.

speaker-0: Well, the the Aces looked pretty good until they got beat. I mean, these new teams that are coming in, Valkyrie, what are they in their second year, they make the finals. And then who knows Angel Reese was actually gonna make a difference and that she goes into the dream and and and they're in it too. But hopefully the new GM is smart enough to know, hey, Kelsey Mitchell just scored the most points in WMBay history. Maybe we should keep her. And you know, you figure it out whether you gotta get rid of someone else. I know Sophie Cunningham might be a casualty. She's also a free agent this summer as well, or this winter. But we'll see what happens with the fever. We'll cover them again come springtime probably.

speaker-1: For sure.

speaker-0: But let's let's end with one of our favorite categories here, and that would be high school sectional football, which we were ent entertained with Friday night. I know you were on watching game of the week down in my neck of the woods where I grew up, Putnam County, South Putnam and Cascade, and you take it away. What happened there?

speaker-1: We had a massive game down in Cascade. We had it was the first time in the IHSA football state tournament that defending champs squared off in the first round of sectionals. So we had South Putnam, who won class one A last year, and they were bumped to two A. And then we had Cascade. Who did we just confirm this before we came on the pod. Cascade actually won three A last year. And due to enrollment being down, they did go down to two A. So these two met in class two A. And I did have the pleasure of watching this one. And it was one hell of a ball game. And I've got to tell you, this running back Ty Benton from South Putt, this kid is absolutely insane. His line. It there's not one senior on this O line. So next season they return everybody on this offensive line, making holes. I mean, you and I probably could have run through but this Ty Benton kid, unbelievable. Two

speaker-0: Is he coming back? Was he he's not is he a senior?

speaker-1: He is. Two hundred and sixty-eight yards rushing, six touchdowns. And that is insane. And so, yeah, the the South Putt rolling through the Cascade cut outs, fifty six to thirty three. The game wasn't even that close. Cascade put up a little bit of fight for for there for a a bit. This is all running.

speaker-0: Put that put that in perspective. So the three A state you win three A state, right? And now you're playing basically a one A team. You think you should kill and then you get killed. You would think And I know they're both in two A this year, but that doesn't compute my head. That's that's pretty crazy.

speaker-1: And and we all know that, you know, Greg Rakstraw is like the king of, you know, telecasting for the IHSA and you know big football games around big football and basketball games around the state. He made his way out to Cascade for a two A sectional opening round game, if that tells you how big this is. Those of you that do not live in Indiana, Cascade is a little town out in Hendricks County. Just west of Indianapolis and South Putnam is a bordering town. And these two actually I heard on the telecast from Rake Straw, these two haven't played, I believe, in football in six or seven years, which seems crazy to rival.

speaker-0: So both of those teams were in the same conference, the WCC, when I went to high school at North Putnam. And so we played Cascade and South Put every year. We actually have a a bucket we play for with South Putnam, kind of like the old Olton bucket. Mm-hmm. North and South Putnam. But I'll tell you what, Cascade of one of the best pork tenderloins you're gonna find in the state of Indiana. Hidden Gym right on Route forty. I forget the name of the place. but every football game we went to there, we had to stop there. And get the pork tenderloin and I believe they had karaoke too.

speaker-1: Yeah, so also we had Knightstown in class one A with an eighty-four to nothing win over Union City. I mean, that is just wild. Ron Collie, 4120 over Connorsville. Bishop Shatard in a big win in class 4A, 2112 over Garen Catholic. And then next week, 5A and 6A classes come back in. The game of the week. Westfield versus Carmel and like I've said before.

speaker-0: Your dark horse.

speaker-1: Carmel is my dark horse. Westfield is really good. Brownsburg goes to Zionsville. I I do feel bad for Zionsville because Zionsville has a great team this year, but as we've said, if you haven't listened to our pods

speaker-0: They're running in the Brownsburg train.

speaker-1: I'm I'm a Brownsburg alum and this Brownsburg team, they are absolutely unbelievable. They're going for three state championships in a row, and I'll actually be shocked if they don't do it, just as good as they've looked. So Brownsburg is at Zionsville. I will be supporting my adopted alma mater, Hamlin Southeastern. We've got the rivalry against the Fishers Tiger point two, two point Coming up this Friday. So let's hope we have some good weather for a second round of sectional games. And there's gonna be some great matchups across the state. You got Cathedral against Mount Vernon as well, Franklin Central and Decatur Central. So this is a great time of year for Indiana sports, folks. And we couldn't be more excited here at Who's Your Beef. We're so glad that you tuned in and

speaker-0: But we got breaking news. I hate to interrupt you there, but I just came across the ticker here. Zubak out the wrestler game. I don't know what he did. I told you he came up lame earlier.

speaker-1: no.

speaker-0: lower body. We'll have to look that one up, but let's hope that's just temporary. But the Pacers are rolling up eleven now, start of the third quarter. And I think that wraps up our first ever video telecast. So hopefully you join us. Make sure you subscribe. It's gonna help out our channel a lot. They're on YouTube. Do

speaker-1: Yeah.

speaker-0: you point down? Well they you can't do that as a man. You can't do that anymore.

speaker-1: Point up.

speaker-0: Subscribe. Subscribe, it's down there.

speaker-1: Like and subscribe, like and subscribe. Hey, we're gonna do something next week on episode two of Who's Your Beef? If you like, subscribe, and comment, we're gonna have a gift card for a random subscriber that comments.

speaker-0: What do you wanna do? You wanna do a gift card or you wanna you wanna give away something tangible? Gift card's probably easier.

speaker-1: Yeah, gift card. But hey, why don't you guys like, subscribe, and comment on on below on this this episode? So yeah, I'll I'll be out at a lot of HSE basketball games here coming up. So if you've if you listen to the pod and and see me out of the game, let's talk some shop and and let's let's get your let's get your business on who's your beef.

But now they can put a face to the name and say, Hey General, I'm in. But don't worry, we're still on Apple and Spotify for all you podcast listeners that want audio only. And we're just gonna have another outlet. But until next week, let's see if we can get some W's Purdue's back in action. IU and the Colts, obviously the Pacers. We gave you their roundup and we look forward to The second round of sectionals, first round for class 5A and 6A. Frankly, that's why Rake Straw was out there. It was no big dogs.

speaker-1: Correct. All right. So yep, let's go watch the Pacers get this second W of the year, and we'll catch you guys next time.

speaker-0: Later.
